About Us

MKA Karate can trace its roots back to 1984 and the Cardinal O'Hara Karate Club. This was run by Charles Terry during his Junior and Senior years of high school. In 1986, he went on the found the University of Pennsylvania Ryukyu Kempo Karate Club. After leading this group for more than a decade he and several of his top Black Belts opened MKA Karate in the Drexelbrook Apartment Complex in 1997. The first classes were actually held in the Drexelbrook Banquet and Catering facility while renovations took place in the shopping center. The original site of MKA Karate was not very big, but we quickly developed a strong following. In 2001, MKA Karate expanded to it's present 3000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility.
